What is Melton City Council doing to improve Boundary Road?

  • Melton City Council is sealing the shoulders on both sides of Boundary Road between The Mall and Mt Atkinson Road, allowing for safe two-way traffic with the addition of a centerline road marking and new signage.
  • This will significantly improve road safety and enhance the overall condition of Boundary Road as currently, the road has only a single sealed lane, which forces vehicles to share the central lane and partially drive on the unsealed shoulders.

What is the impact on drivers?

Boundary Road will be closed between The Mall and Troups Road South from Monday 12 May until mid-May, then between Troups Road South and Tarneit Road from mid-May until Wednesday 28 May 2025. Detour routes are in place and traffic management will be in operation during working hours of the project.

What will works look like?

The contractors will first lay crushed rock to create a stable surface to lay asphalt on. After compacting the rock, asphalting will take place to extend the sealed surface to enable two lanes of traffic to safely pass. Works then include line marking and installation of new speed warning signs.

There will be noise and dust associated with these works.  Works will occur between Monday and Friday from 7am until 6pm.

What about the rest of Boundary Road?

The responsibility of Boundary Road is shared between Melton and Wynhdam councils and the Victorian Government.

  • Melton City Council manages Mt Cottrell Road to Mt Atkinson Road
  • Wyndham City Council manages Mt Atkinson Road to Hopkins Road
  • The Victorian Government manages Boundary Road and Hopkins Road intersection

Melton City Council will be undertaking an additional upgrade to The Mall to Mt Atkinson Road section, including widening of the roadway. These works are expected to commence in 2026.

Wyndham City Council is liaising with developers to upgrade Boundary Road from Mt Atkinson Road to Hopkins Road. They are progressing through approval of designs and this is expected to be constructed in the next two years.

Major Projects Victoria is currently engaged in early works for the intersection upgrade of Hopkins Road and Boundary Road with no confirmation for the timing of construction.
