General waste bin (red lid)
Your general waste bin with red lid, also known as your rubbish bin, is collected kerbside each week.
If you want to know when your general waste bin will be collected next, simply enter your address into find my bin day.
Contents of your general waste bin go straight to landfill. This should be the last option for waste disposal. That's why we support residents to reduce the amount of waste going into your general waste and into landfill.
Currently around 60 percent of our landfill waste contains recyclable materials. You can help by only placing items in your general waste bin where it can't be recycled, reused or repaired.

FAQs
Where do the contents of my general waste bin go?
The contents of your general waste bin go directly to landfill at the Melbourne Regional Landfill in Ravenhall.
Landfilling is the least preferred option for waste disposal in Australia, and it is therefore Council’s role to support residents in reducing the amount of waste disposed of in this way.
How much general waste goes to landfill each year?
While our recycling efforts are on the rise, City of Melton residents are still producing approximately 35,000 tonnes of household waste each year. (Source: Melton City Council waste collection records as at 30 June 2023)
This equates to approximately 3,500 garbage trucks of waste annually which significantly increases the production of Co2 and methane gas.
Data collected through our Bin Inspection Program indicates at least 60 per cent of our landfill waste contains recyclable materials.
