Child safety

Commitment to child safety

Melton City Council is committed to being a child safe organisation and has zero tolerance for child abuse. We are committed to creating and maintaining a child safe organisation where protecting children and preventing and responding to child abuse is at the centre of our everyday thinking and service delivery.

Child Safe Standards

In 2015, the State Government introduced a set of national child safe standards for organisations regulated or funded by government that provide services for children.

The standards were recommended by the government’s parliamentary inquiry into the handling of child abuse by religious and other non-government organisations and are established under the Child Wellbeing and Safety Act (2005). They aim to ensure that organisations are well prepared to protect children from abuse and neglect.

Our commitment

Melton City Council is committed to complying with the Child Safe Standards as set out by the Commission for Children and Young People (CCYP). These standards are designed to ensure organisations create and maintain environments that are safe for all children.

The Child Safe Standards help us:

  • Embed a culture of child safety across all levels of our organisation
  • Proactively identify and manage risks to children
  • Ensure the voices of children and young people are heard and respected
