Gifts, Benefits and Hospitality
Melton City Council follows a process to manage gifts, benefits and hospitality received by staff and Councillors to ensure transparency within the community.
What is a gift, benefit or hospitality?
A gift includes any goods or service (other than volunteer labour) that is provided for free or for less than its normal selling price. This includes, but is not limited to, things like physical items, entertainment, accommodation, travel, tickets to events, corporate hospitality or meals.
Cash, or cash equivalent, is never accepted. Gifts are also never accepted where it could be perceived to influence a Council decision.
Any gifts accepted by Council staff or Councillors are declared and recorded in Council’s gift register.
