Plan your trip
A little bit of planning can help you make the most of your visit to the Melton Recycling Facility. To make your visit the most efficient and use your waste entitlements make sure to follow these 5 steps:
1. Claim your entitlement
For tenants and new property owners, entitlements can be accessed by requesting a voucher from customer service. Current proof of residency is required in the form of a lease agreement, utility bill or contract.
Request Melton Recycling Facility Waste Voucher
For property owners a voucher is not required. To use your entitlements please provide your rates notice or rates assessment number, and photo ID at the Transfer Station gatehouse.
2. Check opening hours
The Recycle Centre and Transfer Station close due to weather including strong winds and high temperatures. Please check this website or call the Melton Recycling Facility for updates.
3. Sort your load
Place your materials for the transfer station in your vehicle first, then add items for the free-drop off at the recycle centre and resale shop.
4. Know your size
Each waste entitlement allows 1 cubic metre to be disposed of at the Transfer Station. If your load is considered more than 1 cubic metre, two waste entitlements will be used, or charges may apply.
In the example below 1 cubic metre sits just below the line with the tray. Check your vehicles capacity online to ensure you know your size.
Check the Melton Recycling Facility for pricing, terms and conditions for more information on sizes and fees.
5. Visit the recycling facility
When you get to the Melton Recycling Facility, drive through the Recycle Centre first to drop off free recyclable items and items for the resale shop. Then, drive through to the transfer station. Don’t forget to visit the Resale shop to check out some affordable shopping before you leave.

FAQs
Why is a Melton Recycling Facility visit only 1m3 and a hard waste collection 3m3?
The hard waste collection items can often be recovered, reused or recycled whereas the Melton Recycling Facility visit items are typically mixed waste. These items are therefore unsorted and will go straight to landfill, which results in higher disposal costs. This is why a 1m3 entitlement is applied. Fees may apply to certain items so refer to the Melton Recycling Facility Terms, Conditions and Guidelines (PDF Download).
The Melton Recycling Facility provides free disposal of many items all year round. See Melton Recycling Facility Terms, Conditions and Guidelines (PDF Download).
Additionally, green garden waste is free to drop off at the Melton Recycling Facility from mid-November to Mid- January each year.
