Notice of making local law
Notice is hereby given that Melton City Council, at its meeting held on 25 August 2025, resolved to make one local law titled ‘Local Law 2025’ pursuant to section 74(4) of the Local Government Act 2020.
The Local Law comes into effect on 13 October 2025. The objectives and intended effect of the Local Law are to:
- Provide for the peace order and good governance of the Municipal District in a way that is complimentary to the Council Plan
- Provide for those matters which require a Local Law under the Local Government Act and any other Act
- Provide for the administration of Council powers and functions
- Promote a physical and social environment free from hazards to health, in which the residents of the Municipal District can enjoy a quality of life that meets the general expectations of the community
- Prevent and suppress nuisances which may adversely affect the enjoyment of life within the Municipal District or the health, safety and welfare of Persons within the Municipal District; and
- Regulate, control and prohibit certain activities of people within the Municipal District which may be dangerous, unsafe or detrimental to the quality of life of other people, in the environment of the Municipal District.
The objectives are achieved by:
- Regulating and controlling activities that may be dangerous or detrimental to amenity or environment within the City of Melton through education and enforcement; and
- Promoting awareness and encouraging voluntary compliance to the standards and conditions set out in the Local Law.
