Taylors Road and Plumpton Road Traffic Lights

  • Project scheduleStart late 2024 with expected completion early 2026
Project overview

The intersection of Taylors Road and Plumpton Road has been identified as a priority upgrade due to high traffic volumes and associated safety hazards.  Council will be carrying out upgrade works to transform the existing T-intersection into a four-way intersection, with traffic lights.  This upgrade is a key component of the broader Taylors Road Corridor Upgrade Plan, which aims to accommodate the future growth of our city while ensuring the safety and wellbeing of residents.

Key features of the project include:
  • Expansion and realignment of the road to improve traffic flow and safety
  • Installation of new traffic lights to regulate traffic and enhance safety at the intersection
  • Pedestrian crossings to allow for safe and accessible pedestrian crossings as well as support active transport options
  • Installation of public lighting to increase visibility and enhance safety
  • Drainage improvements
  • New landscaping
  • Relocation of services such as electricity, water, gas, and communications will be placed underground for durability and safety

July update:

Temporary lane closure –Taylors Road near Plumpton Road

From Saturday 5 July 2025 until Wednesday 30 July 2025, there is a temporary lane closure on Taylors Road on the city, or eastern, side of the Plumpton Road intersection.

Taylors Road remains open under shuttle flow, with temporary traffic lights sequenced to allow more cars to pass through during peak times. There is a detour in place via Melton Highway and the Western Freeway.

Works involve digging a 200m long trench to install drainage under Taylors Road. To ensure safety for road users and works crew, barriers are in place to separate traffic from work area, requiring the single lane closure. These works are weather dependent.

These works have been scheduled to take advantage of the July School Holidays; however, the nature of the works requires the lane closure until Wednesday 30 July.
