Bridge Road extension

Works have commenced on a new extension to Bridge Road in Cobblebank, between Ferris Road and Adelong Boulevard.

The roadworks will include:

  • an 830-metre extension to Bridge Road between Ferris Road and Adelong Boulevard
  • upgrade of the intersection at Ferris Road to a signalised intersection
  • extension of all services and associative works surrounding the area on Ferris Road.

The $10 million project will link the Atherstone and Robinsons Rise estates, provide access to the new St Francis Catholic School, and the future Melton Hospital which is expected to open in 2029.

During the project we are working closely with St Francis Catholic School to ensure that ongoing access via Alfred Road is safe and secured for the duration of the project.

The Victorian Government has contributed $620,000 to the project to support sewerage and conduit works required to service the Melton Hospital.

The project is scheduled for completed by mid-2024 and we thank you for your patience while these important works are undertaken.

Road closure update

Work along Bridge Road and Adelong Road is nearing completion with the last stages of utility work, landscaping, asphalting and supplying power to the traffic signals and public lighting remaining.

Bridge Road between Stadium Drive and Ferris Road opening

Bridge Road between Stadium Drive and Ferris Road will be opened to through traffic on Friday 7 June, weather permitting. Residents were previously advised that the opening would be Friday 31 May however work has been rescheduled due to the forecast inclement weather.

We will open the intersection of Bridge Road and Ferris Road under a temporary T-Junction arrangement until the signalised intersection is completed and energised in the coming months.

In order to prepare for the opening of this section of Bridge Road, work will take place at night on Thursday 6 June between 7pm and 5am to complete temporary line marking.

Traffic management and pedestrian detours will still in place during this time. Please refer to the maps over the page.

Please take care around the worksite and follow directions from traffic controllers and signage at all times.

Works we have achieved

Since the closure begun, we have achieved significant progress, despite several setbacks due to adverse weather conditions.

We have achieved the following during the closure:

  • Civil works for the road construction has been completed and sealed to the underside of asphalt layer on the Ferris Road and Bridge Road extension from Stadium Road to Adelong Boulevard near the Saint Francis Catholic College. Laying of the asphalt is progressing and is expected to be completed by early February.
  • New utilities services along the Bridge Road extension, including a gas main, water main, sewer and a recycled water connection to Saint Francis Catholic College.
  • New drainage
  • Majority of new footpaths have been completed.
  • Relocation works are underway to relocate Telstra underground conduits along Ferris Road.
  • New traffic light cables have been installed.

Adverse weather conditions

Due to significant rainfall since Christmas this has caused significant delays to the works, as the ground was not stable to complete road construction.

To mitigate the delays, we employed engineering methods to stabilize the ground to a stage where it could be sealed. However, we will need to continue to keep sections of the road closed for longer periods to complete all planned works.

Access to Saint Francis Catholic College

Providing access to Saint Francis Catholic College was a priority prior to start of the new School year.

To ensure that the school access was completed on time, we allocated extra resources to the eastern end of works near the college. We’re pleased to share that works have been completed at the eastern end of extended Bridge Road on time.

This webpage will be updated as works progress to keep residents informed.
