Estimated Resident Population

The Estimated Resident Population (ERP) is the Australian Bureau of Statistics’ official population figure for all Local Government Areas (LGAs). 

The population estimate for the City of Melton as of 30 June 2024 was 219,697. 

Population growth

The Australian Bureau of Statistics regularly releases regional data on various factors of population change (birth, deaths and migration). 

Some highlights from the data released in March 2025 include:

  • The City of Melton is the fastest growing municipality in Australia with population growth rate of 6.6 per cent (2023-2024)
  • The City of Melton is the fourth largest-growing municipality in Australia with an increase of 13,676 people (2023-2024)
  • The Fraser Rise - Plumpton area had the largest growth in the country (increasing by 4,300 people in 2023-2024) followed by the Rockbank - Mount Cottrell area which had the second largest growth in the country (increasing by 4,100 people between 2023-2024)
  • Fraser Rise - Plumpton also had the second highest growth rate in he country (26 per cent)

Melton City Council engages data experts Informed Decisions (.id) annually to update our population forecast (or projection). The projection is called 'Forecast.id'. 

According to Forecast.id, The City of Melton population is projected to grow to 455,980 by 2046.
