Get Set for Summer
As we head into the warmer months, many of us start preparing our homes and gardens for summer. Whether it’s clearing out the shed, tidying up the backyard, or making space around the festive season, it’s a great time to get organised.
We’re inviting our community to Get Set for Summer by making full use of their Council waste entitlements and services.
Hard waste collection or drop off
Yes: City of Melton residents do receive hard waste collections and tip visits!
Each household receiving a Melton City Council kerbside bin service is entitled annually to:
- Two free Council hard waste collections (up to 3 cubic metres each), or
- Two free drop-offs at the Melton Recycling Facility (up to 1 cubic metre each), or
- A combination of one of each.
These entitlements apply to both tenants and property owners.

Free green waste disposal
Until the 12 January 2026, you can drop off green waste for free at the Melton Recycling Facility — perfect for trimming trees, cleaning up the garden, or getting rid of your Christmas tree after Christmas. Note that conditions apply, and you will need ID that proves your residency.

Free drop-off of recyclables
At the Recycling Centre at Melton Recycling Facility, you can drop off items such as paint, batteries, engine oil, cardboard and more for free all year round. And if you upgrade your electronics this summer, remember you can drop your old, broken or unwanted e-waste at the Recycling Centre for free.

Donate to the Resale Shop
If the kids are lucky enough to get a new bike or toys for Christmas, consider donating the old ones to the Resale Shop at the Melton Recycling Facility. The Resale Shop accepts most household items that are in good, reusable condition.
