Childrens Week 2025

Celebrating Children's Week 18 October - 26 October.

Children's Week is a national celebration that recognises the talents, skills, achievements and rights of children across Australia. The theme for 2025 is "everyone should know about children's rights" which is a simplified version of Article 42 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. 

Melton City Council invites children and families to celebrate at our 2025 Children's Week Family Celebration!

With a range of indoor and outdoor activities, this free event offers a morning of fun for all to enjoy.

Children's Week Family Celebration

When: Wednesday 22 October
Time: 10am - 12pm
Where: Melton Community Hall, 238 High Street, Melton

  • Chill out with butterflies in the butterfly tent
  • Be amazed by the giant bubble show (10.15am and 11am)
  • Get active with the team from Cricket Victoria and Ready Steady Go Kids
  • Enjoy a range of art, craft and sensory activities
  • Meet local emergency services - CFA and Victoria Police
  • Find out about local programs and services for children and families

This is a free event with no bookings required. Children are required to be supervised by a parent/ carer at all times. Outdoor activities are weather dependent.

Family Tales

Saturday 18 October

Storytelling is just one of the ways we can connect and share rich experiences together. Saturday Family Tales is a wonderful way for busy families to enjoy our library space and have fun with stories, songs and rhymes. This event is recommended for children aged 0-8 years to enjoy with their parents and carers and is offered at both of our library locations.

Time: 11am - 11.30am

Toddler Time

Monday 20 October

Engage your toddler through singing, stories, movement, and play. Perfect for children aged 1-3 years and their parents or carers.

Baby Bounce

Tuesday 21 October

Introduce your baby to the sounds and rhythm of language through stories and songs. Baby Bounce is perfect for babies aged 0-12 months and their parents or carers. This event is offered at both of our library locations.

Preschool Storytime

Introduce your child to the wonderful world of books and imagination. Sessions include stories, songs, rhymes, and an introduction to AUSLAN (Australian Sign Language). Storytime is perfect for children aged 3 to 5 years, and their grown-ups.

After Schooligans

Tuesday 21 October

Join your favourite children's librarians for some after school fun! From arts and crafts to quizzes and games, reading or STEM activities, there's something for everyone in this fun and interactive program. Perfect for kids aged 5 to 12 years. This event is offered at both of our library locations.

Healthy Eating for Kids - Parents Workshop

Are mealtimes causing stress in your home? Not sure what to feed your fussy little ones?

Join experienced dietitian, Lisa McCarthy for a special online information session on healthy food for young children. Learn about dietary guidelines for children, and get practical tips for managing mealtimes and picky eaters. 

Lisa McCarthy has worked as a dietitian for over 20 years, including 8 years at Melton Community Services (part of Western Health). As well as working face-to-face with clients in-clinic, Lisa also does home visits and runs cooking and nutrition education sessions in the community. Lisa is passionate about improving the health and wellbeing of all community members using practical advice.

Little Legends, Terrific Talent Show (invite only event)

Friday 24 October

This non-competitive event is all about celebrating young community members and the many talents that bring them joy to perform. This is their moment to share their unique skills and talents with the local community.

Little Legends, Terrific Talent is open to children aged 5-12 years who reside in the City of Melton.
