Join in the fun from home with a variety of free online workshops, performances, and activity ideas for children of all ages.

Please note some sessions have limited places and will require bookings. Registrations for sessions will open at 9am on Monday 18 October.

Please ensure you head over to the Facebook event page  and click ‘Going’ to be notified when bookings open.

Please note, providers and activities may be subject to change. Please ensure adequate adult supervision is provided for all activities. 

This Children’s Week activity is presented by Melton City Council in partnership with the Victorian Government.

Monday 25 October

9:00am: Make you own musical instruments- Shakers

Join B-Minor Music and make your own musical shaker in this first session of our three part 'easy to make musical instruments for kids' series.

 

10:30am: Read Sing Chat Launch

For pre-school aged children.

As part of Melton City Libraries’ new Read, Sing, Chat program we are excited to bring you an online STEAM workshop for pre-schoolers to celebrate Children’s Week.

Watch library staff investigate all things science with an activity that will have children wanting to learn more.

11:30am: Bubble art workshop

For children aged 3 to 4 years old. 

Bubble Art is a sensory art activity that will delight all children! In this workshop facilitated by Sofie Dieu, kids will create their very own decorated magic bubble wand, then make their own colourful bubble mixture before painting a series of 3 cards to giveaway to family and friends. While they are painting water patterns from coloured bubbles, they’ll also a learn about protecting our natural waterways. A craft kit will be sent out for this workshop, and some materials are also required from home.

 

1:15pm: Art for Pre-Schoolers

Let your pre-school aged child develop creative flair and explore the world of drawing and painting. These hands-on weekly classes provide opportunities for your young child to discover new and fun ways to be creative on paper.

 

4:00pm: Trivia

For primary school aged children.

Melton City Libraries are kicking off this year’s Children’s week with a virtual trivia quiz!  Join us online as we celebrate one of this year’s Children’s Book Council Award winners. 

If you want the best chance of winning some awesome prizes, jump onto Story Box Library and check out the titles available there. You never know, you may just be able to do some research before the quiz!

You’ll need a free library membership to login, so if you don’t have one, call us on 9747 5300 and we’ll sort it out!

 

Tuesday 26 October

10:00am: Baby Bounce Online

For babies aged 0 to 12 months.

Baby Bounce is an interactive program that introduces your baby to the sounds, rhythm, and movement of language. Babies love songs and rhymes and delight in watching and listening to you sing. Sharing a love of reading, rhymes, singing, and talking with your baby is one of the best things you can do to give your baby a head start in life and at school.

 

10:30am: Gundoo (Child) Dreamtime.

For pre-school aged children.

Facilitated by Djarrin (Gene) Blow this energetic and entertaining introduction to Indigenous Australian culture is specifically for children under 5. Featuring short Dreamtime stories, digeridoo, dances, songs, artefacts and games, this program is a fun way for younger children to start engaging with Indigenous culture in a fun and interactive way. 

 

11:00am: 'Preschool Storytime with Greater Western Water'

For pre-school aged children

Splash into some watery fun with Greater Western Water! Join educator Alice to read stories, sing songs and play watery games! This session is aimed at preschool children, 3-5 years old.

 

‘Spot the character’ Scavenger Hunt

Help! Some of our favourite story book characters have gone missing within our suburbs and we need your help finding them!   Grab your map, put your walking shoes on and get set to explore.

‘Spot the Character’ Scavenger Hunts will be set up around a selection of Council’s community centres in celebration of Children’s Week 2021. Explore these centres to help locate our missing friends:

  • Timbertop Children’s & Community Centre, Aintree- Jack and the Beanstalk
  • Stevenson House, Caroline Springs- Possum Magic
  • Eynesbury Discovery Centre, Eynesbury- Who Sank the Boat
  • Fraser Rise Children’s & Community Centre, Fraser Rise- Where the Wild Things Are
  • Arnolds Creek Children’s & Community Centre, Harkness- Maisy Goes to the Museum
  • Kurunjang Community Hub, Kurunjang- Peter Rabbit and Friends
  • Melton Central Community Centre, Melton- The Hungry Catterpillar
  • Bridge Road Children’s & Community Centre, Strathtulloh- Harry Potter
  • Taylors Hill Youth & Community Centre, Taylors Hill- Hairy Maclary

Round up all the missing characters in your local area and go into the draw to win one of three $50 Coles vouchers*.  Spot the Character Scavenger Hunts will be running from Tuesday 26 October until Sunday 31 October. Complete the hunt in your own time at a centre located near you. This is a family friendly activity and is open to children of all ages.  

Completed entries must be received by 5pm Sunday 31 October to be included in the voucher draw.

 

Wednesday 27 October

9:00am: Make your own musical instruments- Tapping Sticks

Join B-Minor Music and make your own musical tapping sticks in this second session of our three part ‘easy to make musical instruments for kids’ series.

 

10:30am: Child Safety

All children have the right to feel and be safe. Keeping children safe is everyone’s responsibility. Learn more about Australia’s Child Safe Standards and complete a fun colouring sheet.

Thursday 28 October

10:00am: Storytime

For children aged 3 to 5 years.

Preschool-aged kids are curious about everything. Storytime is a great way to introduce children to the wonderful world of books. Sessions include stories, songs, rhymes, and an introduction to AUSLAN.

Our storytime programs are designed for parents to participate with their children.

 

10:00am: Imagination Magic- Declan the Music Man

For children aged 0-5 years.

Declan the Music Man performs an interactive musical show that is both educational and fun. He showcases a wide range of musical instruments and has the children participating by singing, clapping, recognising melodies and even playing some easy percussion instruments.

 

4:00pm: Skylines and Storylines Drawing Workshop 

For primary school aged children

A fast paced drawing workshop exploring kids favourite places in their neighbourhood. 

What do you treasure the most about where you live? Join Playable Streets in this fun line drawing workshop and learn to make colourful pictures about your favourite places. This workshop forms part of our programs for an immersive children’s exhibition coming up at CS Gallery in November. Help us create the stories and images that celebrate the local places and people that connect us all!

Please bring some paper (5 pieces of A4) and drawing materials for this workshop.

 

Friday 29 October

9:00am: Make your own musical instruments- Kazoo

Join B-Minor Music and make your own musical kazoo in this second session of our three part ‘easy to make musical instruments for kids’ series.

 

10:00am: Toddler Time

For children aged 1-3 years.

Toddler time has been specifically designed to engage toddlers in all areas of childhood development through singing, stories, movement, literacy, language, and play.

Toddlers have many opportunities to participate or be active listeners throughout the program in a safe, positive, and inclusive environment.

 

10:30am: Healthy Kinder Kids 

For children aged 2 to 5 years.

Calling all kinder kids! We want to hear from you about your health and wellbeing! Council’s Health Promotion Team will be running fun and engaging games and activities for 2-5 year olds to hear their ideas about health and wellbeing to inform our future planning. Kids ideas are so important, we can't wait to hear them!

 

Plus, all week we’ll be sharing different resources, activities, services and programs for families and children living in the City of Melton. Make sure you join the Facebook Event Page for all the fun.

 

12:30pm: Friday Fun with CaPSS

Join the team from The Salvation Army Children and Parenting Support Services for a range of at home play activities and ideas.
