History Through Film: Keeping Christmas
Next date: Monday, 08 December 2025 | 02:00 PM
to 03:30 PM
Discover rich heritage and culture at our monthly History Through Film sessions.
This month, get into the festive spirit with 'Keeping Christmas', an inspiring documentary that tells the story of craftsman, Richard Mahr and his family.
Every Christmas we put up the tree, pull out the ornaments and deck the halls, but have you ever wondered where those traditions started? Germany in the late 1800's was the epicenter for craftsmen making Christmas décor and ornaments. Throughout the 20th century, the Mahr family company made beautiful Christmas ornaments, surviving two World Wars, the Great Depression and communist annexation. This documentary is the story of their survival against the odds.
Enjoy a free screening in the comfort of Melton Library. After the session, we can also show you how to stream even more documentaries and films from home using your library card, absolutely free.
