FAQs

Why can't I put my hard waste onto the nature strip, like in other council areas?

To have your collection picked up, items must be presented from within your property boundary, such as a driveway or front yard.

Materials on the nature strip make a neighbourhood unsightly and invites scavengers. It also invites other residents to contribute to your pile of unwanted goods. This can mean that the items you've put out may miss out on getting collected.

Can I purchase additional vouchers?

No additional vouchers cannot be purchased through Council.

Free items can be dropped off at the Recycle Centre and Resale Shop at Melton Recycling Facility including appliances, paint, scrap metal and cardboard. For more information visit the Melton Recycling Facility

I'm not sure if I can put my item out for hard waste.

If you have something that isn't on the list, refer to our A-Z guide for your home or call us on 03 9747 7200.

Why is a Melton Recycling Facility visit only 1m3 and a hard waste collection 3m3?

The hard waste collection items can often be recovered, reused or recycled where as the Melton Recycling Facility visit items are typically mixed waste. These items are therefore unsorted and will go straight to landfill, which results in higher disposal costs. This is why a 1m3 entitlement is applied. Fees may apply to certain items so refer to the transfer station gatehouse fees.

The Melton Recycling Facility provides free disposal of many items all year round. See the full list of items at the Melton Recycling Facility.

Green garden waste is also free to drop off at the Melton Recycling Facility from mid-November to Mid- January each year.

Can my hard waste be collected from a vacant property, vacant block or another address?

No, the property must have people living in it when the waste collection occurs in case items are not able to be collected.
