World Bee Day: Make a Native Insect Hotel
Next date: Monday, 18 May 2026 | 01:30 PM
to 02:30 PM
Help celebrate and support our amazing native bees this World Bee Day, through creating an insect hotel for your backyard!
Did you know that there are over 1500 different species of Australian native bees? Almost all of these species are solitary bees, meaning they don’t live in social colonies like honeybees do, but have individual nests. These native bees play an important role in pollination and our sustainable food systems. So, it’s important we provide the perfect habitat for them to thrive.
Workshop
During this free workshop, Holly’s Backyard Bees will talk us through some of the Australian Native Bees that we might come across in our gardens in Victoria, what kind of plants that they like, and how we can provide habitat for them to welcome them into our gardens and play spaces.
We will then make an insect hotel to take home to provide habitat for these amazing insects. All materials are provided, however feel free to forage for natural materials in your garden to add to the insect hotels (e.g. sticks, bamboo, seedpods, etc).
This workshop is an all-ages event, please register as spaces are limited.
