Changes to bin collection in some areas

Due to high population growth within the City of Melton, some households will see changes to their bin collection in May 2026.

Changes to affected households may include:

  • change in bin collection day
  • change in bin collection week
  • change in bin collection day and week.

The changes will start from week commencing Monday 4 May 2026.

How to check if you're affected by the changes

Affected households will receive a letter in the mail during April, detailing changes to their collection. 

You can also simply enter your address into the interactive map below. A pop up will tell you whether your household is affected and let you know the changes specific to your property. 

The changes will be reflected on the Find my bin day page from Monday 4 May.

Why is my bin collection changing?

The City of Melton is growing quickly, and more people are moving into some areas. To keep the service working well, bin collection routes are changing.

When do the changes to my bin collection start?

Your new bin collection starts from the week beginning Monday 4 May 2026.

Changeover Week

What is Changeover Week?

Changeover Week is the first week of the new schedule, starting Monday 4 May 2026.

What do I need to do?

Put your bins out before 6am on your new collection day.

What if I put my bin out on the wrong day?

If you forget to put your bins out according to collection changes during changeover week, don’t worry. 

During changeover week, bins will be collected based on both your current and new schedule to allow time for your to get used to the changes. After this week, bins will only be collected on your new collection days.

Note, that bins placed on a completely different day to your current or new collection day will not be collected. 

For example:

  • Your current collection day is Monday and your new collection day is Wednesday. You put your bins out to be collected on the Friday. Your bins will not be collected
  • Your current collection day is Monday and your new collection day is Wednesday. You put your bins out to be collected on the Monday. Your bins will be collected.

Keep putting your bins out on your new collection day every week.
