Nature in the City 2026: Melton Botanic Garden Walk

Are you up for a citizen science challenge? Join us for a nature walk and help Melbourne compete in the City Nature Challenge 2026!  

On Monday 27 April, the Friends of the Melton Botanic Garden and Council staff will host a free guided walk, exploring the plants, insects and birds that call the Melton Botanic Garden home. 

During the walk we will encourage you to take pictures to upload to iNaturalist. Tagging the photos will add them to our City Nature Challenge page.

The City Nature Challenge will run from Friday 24 – Monday 27 April 2026. During the 4-day window, photos added to our page will be pooled with those of other Melbourne Council’s helping us to compete with cities all over the world! 

Last year, Melbourne came in 61st globally for number of observations, 45th for number of species, and 28th globally for number of observers. With your help, we can do even better this year! 

There are instructions and tips on how to use iNaturalist on their website, but rest assured you’ll be guided on how to use the platform at the walk.
