  • Oval 2 realignment

Project Updates

May 2022

Removal of contaminated soil discovered during the demolition stage of the project is now complete to allow the pavilion works to recommence.

The realignment of oval 2 to eliminate the need for a retaining wall at the north end is complete.  This has not changed the interface with the pavilion and adds a spectator viewing mound to the north.  Bulk earthwork removal is complete, and as expected, there was a large amount of rock unearthed during this process.

Excavation has commenced in the cricket net zone while Council and the design contractors finalise the detailed plans with user group input.

Works scheduled in June:

  • continue pavilion foundations
  • oval 2 earthworks continue
  • cricket net site preparation

April 2022

Demolition of the previous community facility and sporting pavilion, scouts and tennis facilities has now been completed.

Remaining on site and operational is the Burras Club, which will support the tenant clubs' operations in a number of ways throughout the winter season while the sporting pavilion and community facilities are constructed.
Officers are currently working with tenant groups to finalise temporary facilities to be placed on site during the construction build to support ongoing activities.

The project has encountered two latent conditions that have brought works to a hold point until resolved. The mitigation measures for both latent conditions have just been finalised. The impact will not affect the quality or scope of the build going forward, but it will impact the timeline and budget. The Project Team is working toward a revised timeline for completion of the first quarter of 2023.

Oval 2 construction has also been placed on hold, and it appears the oval will not be ready for start of the summer season. The revised completion date for the oval is December 2022.
