The Butler AV Recording Studio located at Melton Library & Learning Hub features a range of sound recording equipment and editing software and is ideal for all sorts of audio projects.

You can book the Recording Studio any time during Library operating hours.

Hiring fees

Payment is required to book the Butler AV Recording Studio. Standard room hire rates apply:

  • Community rate: $23.60 per hour
  • Commercial rate: $47.15 per hour

Public Liability Insurance is required to use the Butler AV room. If you do not have Public Liability Insurance, an additional fee of $33.50 will apply.

What equipment does the Butler AV Room have?

The recording room includes:

How old do I have to be to use the Butler AV Room?

To hire the Butler AV Recording Studio, you must be aged 18 or older. Photo ID is required to book. Anyone using the Recording Studio with you must be aged 12 or older. Users under the age of 18 must be supervised by the hirer at all times. 

Do I need to know how to use the equipment?

Yes. You will need to know how to use the equipment on your own. Library staff cannot offer technical support. 

How many people can I bring to the Butler AV Recording Studio?

  • Recording room: up to 3 people
  • Editing room: up to 5 people

How long can I use the Butler AV Recording Studio for?

You can use the Recording Studio for up to 4 hours a day, during library opening hours. This includes your setup and pack-up time.

Where can I learn how to use the Butler AV Recording Studio equipment?

Other important rules

  • No food or drinks are allowed in the Recording Studio.
  • Please do not leave the Recording Studio unattended, unless the door is closed.
  • Hirers must leave the Recording Studio clean and tidy.
  • Any damage must be reported to library staff immediately.
  • Standard room-hire rates apply.
  • Public Liability Insurance is required to use the Butler AV room. If you do not have Public Liability Insurance, an additional fee of $33.50 will apply.
  • You must accept the Terms of Use and watch a short induction video to complete your expression of interest.
  • Remember to save your work! Our computers reset at the end of each day, so please bring a USB or hard drive to save your work.
  • Bookings must be made at least 3 days in advance.
