Annual Footpath Renewal Works

We're renewing footpaths across the city as part of our Capital Works Annual Footpath Renewal Program. These works help keep footpaths safe, accessible and comfortable for everyone in the community.

Footpaths are an important part of our local transport network. Through regular renewal, we maintain footpaths in good condition and extend their useful life. This proactive approach helps reduce long-term repair costs while ensuring paths remain safe for daily use.

Program delivery

  • New and improved footpath surfaces
  •  Safer and more accessible paths for pedestrians
  • Well-maintained footpaths that last longer over time

What to Expect During Works

While footpath works are underway, residents and path users may notice:

  • Construction noise during normal work hours
  •  Increased truck and machinery movement in the area

Council will make every effort to minimise disruption and complete the works as quickly and safely as possible.

How you can help

To help the works run safely and smoothly, we ask for your cooperation by:

  • Keeping children and pets well clear of work areas until works are complete
  •  Not allowing water to run into the work zone during construction
  • Staying alert around moving machinery and wet concrete or related materials

Access during works

Temporary restrictions may be in place while footpaths are being renewed. Alternative pedestrian access will be provided where required, and nearby property access will be maintained wherever possible.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work to improve footpaths for the whole community.

FAQs

The footpath on my street looks ok as it is. Why is it being renewed?

When the surfacing on concrete gets old it deteriorates and cracks appear. Cracks will allow water to get in and undermine the surface leading to settlement or a sunken footpath.

Can I get in and out of my driveway/property on the day?

Yes. Vehicular access to your property will be permitted. There may be some short delays/inconvenience especially if concrete works are occurring directly in front of your property at that time. Staff on-site will escort vehicles from the worksite when safe to do so. Residents can approach staff and advise them of any necessary trips. Please allow additional time for any trips.

This is inconvenient, why should I co-operate?

The cost of maintenance works such as these are based on time to complete the works. Allowing full and unhindered access to your street will ensure time is used efficiently and that costs and inconvenience are reduced to a minimum.

If the footpath works happening on my street is on the garbage bin collection day, will it still be collected?

Yes, please leave the bins out in the usual spot on the day of collection. Garbage trucks will be given access to the worksite when safe to do so to empty the bins in the area. If it is unsafe to do so, the Traffic Controllers on site will wheel the bins to and from the Garbage truck to your usual spot where you would place the bins for collection.
