A vibrant new town centre for shopping, dining, services and entertainment is being planned for Mt Atkinson and residents are invited to have their say.

Melton City Council has released the draft Mt Atkinson Major Town Centre Urban Design Framework (UDF) for community consultation and is inviting feedback over a four-week period until Wednesday 19 November 2025.

The draft UDF was developed by Mesh Planning on behalf of Mt Atkinson Holdings through consultation with Council and outlines a vision for a new town centre adjacent to a proposed new train station, where residents can shop, work and enjoy recreational opportunities within close proximity to home.

As a requirement of the Mt Atkinson and Tarneit Plains Precinct Structure Plan, it will guide the future development of the town centre and provide Council with direction for assessing and considering future development proposals.

The draft UDF can be viewed online, and feedback submitted via a short survey at City of Melton Conversations.

Hard copies of the draft UDF are available to view at Melton City Council’s Civic Centre, Caroline Springs Library and Mt Atkinson Children’s and Community Centre.

Community members can also view the plan, ask questions and find out more at drop-in sessions being held at Mt Atkinson Children’s and Community Centre on:

  • Wednesday 29 October, 6pm-8pm
  • Saturday 15 November, 10:30am-12:30pm

Following the consultation period, Council will review feedback and make any required amendments to the UDF before it is presented at a future Council Meeting for consideration.

Quotes attributable to City of Melton Mayor Cr Steve Abboushi:

“The Mt Atkinson area is fast-growing, and with an increasing population, there is emerging demand for a local services close to home.

“It is important that we make sure the UDF reflects the needs and expectations of our community.

“I encourage residents to view the draft UDF, and let us know what they like, what’s most important to them and what could be improved.”
