Melton Recycle Centre and Resale Shop celebrate one year
Published on 18 March 2026
A year after opening, the Melton Recycle Centre and Resale Shop have become a go‑to destination for local residents looking for a convenient, free and responsible way to recycle.
Over the past 12 months, the Recycle Centre has collected nearly 27,000 tonnes of waste—the equivalent of almost 900 large garbage trucks—all diverted away from landfill.
Thousands of residents have made use of the convenient drive-up, drop-off zone to dispose of items such as paint, batteries, engine oil, cardboard, textiles and more, free of charge.
The Resale Shop has also had a big year with almost 70,000 items sold, helping keep quality pre-loved goods in circulation and out of landfill.
The most popular items sold were preloved clothing and footwear, with more than 13,000 items purchased, followed by over 8,000 DVDs! Almost 5,000 books and pieces of furniture found a new home, while nearly 550 bicycles were also given a second life.
The Resale Shop is operated by Outlook Australia on behalf of Council, and profits go directly towards supporting individuals facing disadvantage—including people experiencing long-term unemployment or living with disability—by providing pathways to upskilling and meaningful employment.
The Recycle Centre and Resale Shop are open 7 days a week from 8am - 4:30pm (except New Year’s Day, Good Friday and Christmas Day). For information, visit Melton Recycling Facility.
