July school holiday road safety blitz

We’ve improved the safety for many of our local schools ready in time for term 3.  

Students, parents and carers can look forward to safer journeys to and from school following a series of road safety improvements completed during the July school holidays. 

Council completed a pedestrian safety blitz, delivering upgrades at several local schools, including: 

  • New raised school crossings and crossings at key intersections
  • New speed humps at pedestrian crossing points
  • New drop off and pick up zone  

These improvements are designed to reduce vehicle speeds in busy school areas, improve pedestrian visibility and create safer spaces for students, families and the wider community.

New raised crossings and crossings at key intersections 

New raised school crossings have been installed at:

  • Unitt Street, Melton
  • Recreation Drive, Aintree 

New raised crossings have been installed at:

  • Becca Way and Hume Drive, Caroline Springs
  • City Vista Court at Royale Drive, Fraser Rise
  • City Vista Court at Enterprise Circuit intersections, Fraser Rise 

 

New speed humps at pedestrian points 

New speed humps have been installed on Hume Drive, Caroline Springs, to improve pedestrian safety at busy crossing points. 

 

New drop off and pick up zone

A new drop-off and pick-up zone has been installed on Banchory Avenue, Hillside, improving access and safety for the Cana Catholic Primary School community.

Schools benefiting from these upgrades 

The works support safer access for students, families and staff at:

  • Springside Primary School
  • Springside West Secondary School
  • Southern Cross Grammar
  • St Geogre Preca Primary School
  • Melton Primary School
  • St Domenic’s Primary School
  • Cana Catholic Primary School
  • Dharra School
  • Yarrabing Secondary College

These works build on road safety upgrades completed during the January school holidays, including:

  • Raised wombat crossings at Binap Primary School, Springside Primary School and Southern Cross Grammar
  • A new school crossing at Deanside Primary School
  • New drop-off and pick-up zones at Mindalk Primary School and St Marianne Cope Catholic Primary School
  • Additional parking bays at Brookside P-9 College 

 

Council will continue to review and improve road safety around schools to support walking, riding and safer travel for students and families.  

The next stage of works is the construction of a new signalised pedestrian crossing on Bridge Road, Cobblebank, to improve access for the Strathtulloh Primary School community.
