The City of Melton is one of the fastest growing local government areas in Australia. Our population of more than 200,000 people is expected to increase significantly over the next 30 years to over 500,000 people. To ensure our city grows in a planned and coordinated way, Council works closely with the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP), which prepares Precinct Structure Plans in the municipality.
Precinct Structure Plans (PSPs) are high level master plans that guide how new communities are designed. They outline the location of roads, public transport, schools, parks, shops, housing, employment areas and essential infrastructure. PSPs also help resolve important planning matters such as biodiversity, cultural heritage, infrastructure provision and Infrastructure contributions.
DTP is the statutory authority responsible for overseeing the preparation of all precinct structure plans in Melbourne's growth areas and advising the Minister for Planning on their approval. DTP works in partnership with growth area Councils, including Melton City Council, to complete the planning for Melbourne Growth Areas.
The Department of Transport and Planning (DTP), in collaboration with Council, is currently preparing the following PSPs.
