16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence

Melton City Council is proud to be supporting the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence campaign again in 2019, an international campaign that aims to galvanise action to end violence against women and girls around the world.

16 Days of Activism starts on 25 November, coinciding with International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and wraps up on 10 December, which marks Human Rights Day.

This year, Melton City Council is supporting Respect Victoria's Respect Women: Call it Out campaign.  This campaign encourages people to call out sexism, sexual harassment and disrespect towards women.

Obliterating expectations, get ready for a powerful panel discussion between three women who are reaching success in traditionally male-dominated fields.  Join us to hear former Australian boxing champion and author of two boxing memoirs, Mischa Merz, award-winning film producer Donna Hensler, and Carolyn Pethick, who served with Victoria Police for nearly three decades before authoring the memoir, To Hell and Back - a Policewoman's Story.

Be a role model, Step up. Speak out. Respect women.

This year a local campaign is being delivered with the message "Be a role model. Step up. Speak out. Respect women.  We can end violence against women".  The campaign message can be seen on the steps at the Caroline Springs Library and Melton Amphitheatre, as well as on reusable coffee cups.  Coffee cups will be for sale at the Melton and Caroline Springs Library kiosks, with all proceeds from sales going to McAuley Community Services for Women.
