Over the last few months, we’ve been doing what we can to help keep local businesses thriving. As traders begin to return to some normality, I’d like to reflect on what an amazing job they’ve done and continue to do in getting through this difficult time.
It’s wonderful to see so many independent shops, eateries and services able to reopen or continue to adapt to changes, and I’m proud that Council’s business support has made a difference.
We’ve received some humbling feedback on our Open for Business campaign in which we’ve been promoting local businesses for free via advertising in this newspaper, and via the Melton City Much More app and Facebook page.
To succeed, this campaign relied not only on the expertise of our Economic Development and Tourism team, but on community action and we’re very grateful to everyone who has bought local – whether it be shopping, take away food, or services, it has helped your favourite business stay open.
I’d also like to welcome our 800th Venture Melton Business Network member. This network has been another critical element in Council’s recent efforts to assist local businesses through the COVID-19 crisis. We’ve been offering free memberships, which provides access to free one-on-one business advice from industry specialists, professional development, events and networking at a time when it has been needed most.
