Recycling unaffected in the City of Melton

Residents are urged to continue recycling as usual in the City of Melton, with the municipality unaffected by the closure of SKM Recycling Facilities.

The City’s recycling contractor, Visy is fully operational and kerbside recycling is being collected, sorted and processed at recycling facilities as normal.

As part of this regular process, Visy continues to recycle used paper and packaging into new cardboard boxes at its Australian paper mills.

Hard plastics, glass, paper, cardboard, aluminium and steel should all go in your yellow kerbside bin and stay out of landfill.

City of Melton Mayor Cr Bob Turner encouraged residents to keep recycling.

“Recycling impacts all residents. This is about keeping our City clean, keeping landfill to a minimum and reducing associated costs,” Cr Turner said.

“If you’re putting the right things in your yellow bin, then your household recyclables are going to the right place, so please continue recycling.

“By reducing the amount of waste going to landfill, you are helping create a greener environment for the future.”
