Join us for a national storytime event

Published on 10 May 2019

Young bookworms are invited to join readers across the country for a simultaneous storytime at Melton and Caroline Springs libraries at 11am on Wednesday, May 22.

The special storytime will take place at the same time nationally in libraries, schools, and kindergartens as part of Library and Information Week (22-26 May).

Alpacas with Maracas is the picture book chosen to be read across Australia this year, written and illustrated by Matt Cosgrove.

Songs, fun facts about alpacas, and a craft activity will follow the storytime at City of Melton libraries.

Mayor Cr Bob Turner said the event was a great celebration of reading for children.

“There is a real sense of community in sharing the same book, at the same time with so many other people across the country,” Cr Turner said.

“Events like this create a great feeling of fun around reading and promote literacy skills and imagination.

“This is a special storytime that I hope to see all young families in the City of Melton participate in.”

Last year, more than 1,062,230 people participated in National Simultaneous Storytime at more than 8,255 locations.

The annual event, now in its 19th year, is organised by the Australian Library and Information Association.

It aims to promote the value of reading and literacy and the fun of books.

To participate in this year’s National Simultaneous Storytime, visit Melton Library or Caroline Springs Library at 11am on Wednesday, May 22.
