Getting ready for kinder

Published on 22 February 2019

Is your child looking forward to all the excitement of becoming a kindergarten kid?

March is Kindergarten Readiness Month and parents and carers of toddlers are encouraged to take part in activities and information sessions that will help families make the leap into preschool education.

Run by Melton City Council and City of Melton Kindergarten providers, the sessions are free and are an opportunity for parents to meet teachers, ask questions and help identify if their child is ready for kinder.

Kindergarten applications for 2020 open on Wednesday 13 March 2019.

Parent information sessions will be held from 5 to 7 March at the Melton Library and Learning Hub, Caroline Springs Library and Learning Hub and the Botanica Springs Children’s and Community Centre. Bookings are essential for these sessions.

Kindergarten Open Week, during which you are invited to visit your preferred facility, runs from Monday 18 to Friday 22 March from 6pm to 8pm. Bookings are not required.

Families interested in either opportunity can visit melton.vic.gov.au/kindergarten for locations, times and details on how to book.

City of Melton Mayor, Cr Bob Turner, said all families have a lot of questions when preparing for kindergarten.

“Going off to kindergarten is a big step for both the child and family members, so it’s important to choose one all of you are comfortable with,” Cr Turner said.

“I encourage all parents and carers to take up the opportunities presented during Kinder Readiness Month to help make the transition as smooth as possible.”
