Get to know your neighbours this Neighbourhood House Week

Published on 05 May 2022

City of Melton residents are invited to join in free activities including candle making, chair yoga, winter gardening, and more as part of Neighbourhood House Week 2022.

The theme for Neighbourhood House Week, running from 9-15 May, is Building Resilience by Bringing People Together.

City of Melton Mayor Cr Goran Kesic said this year’s Neighbourhood House Week theme was about celebrating harmonious and resilient communities like those in the City of Melton.

“Throughout the pandemic, neighbourhood houses across the country adapted to the immediate needs of communities by providing vital services such as food relief, childcare, remote adult education, home deliveries, wellbeing calls, online social gatherings, and technology support,” Cr Kesic said.

“COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns have left many people feeling vulnerable and isolated. Our neighbourhood houses and community centres are working to rebuild those social connections that many people lost so that we can build stronger and more resilient communities than ever before.

“Neighbourhood houses and community centres are the hearts of our communities and are spaces where everyone can be involved and connect.

“There’s loads of fun, helpful and creative activities on every day at Neighbourhood Houses, so there’s something for everyone, of every age, and every ability.”

Activities planned for Neighbourhood House Week include candle making, kids’ messy play, chair yoga, macrame, canvas painting as well as informative workshops on budgeting, winter gardening, eco-friendly cleaning, plus more.
