Council appoints Maurie Heaney as Acting CEO

Melton City Council has appointed Maurie Heaney to the role of Acting Chief Executive Officer.

Mr Heaney, Council’s General Manager Community Services, will take up the position on Monday 1 November, following the announcement that current Chief Executive Officer, Kelvin Tori, will retire on Friday 27 October.

City of Melton Mayor, Cr Kathy Majdlik said she looked forward to working with Mr Heaney to continue the delivery of critical community services and key projects.

“Maurie’s strong existing relationships and understanding of key Council priorities and projects will provide stable leadership to the organisation while recruitment for a permanent CEO takes place.

“We are confident Maurie will provide great support to both Councillors and staff during this time.”

Mr Heaney said he was honoured to be appointed to the Acting Chief Executive Officer role.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to lead the organisation and I look forward to working with Councillors and staff to ensure our community continues to grow and prosper in the months to come.”

Maurie has worked in local government for over 30 years in the management of service delivery, including families and children’s services, community planning, libraries, aged and disability services, and recreation. His experience includes planning for major infrastructure and service delivery to meet community needs.

Council is in the process of selecting a consultant to assist with the recruitment of a permanent CEO.
