MEDIA RELEASE - 28 October 2009
Melton Shire Council is reminding motorists that Victoria’s road safety rules will change from 9 November 2009.

The changes to the rules reflect common practices and other changes are new and aimed at improving safety on our roads.

Melton Shire Council Mayor, Cr Renata Cugliari, said it was important that drivers were aware of the changes and understood how they need to act to remain safe.

“The changes to the road rules affect all motorists and it is important that drivers are aware of what the changes are,” she said.

“We all have a role to play in road safety and it is important that drivers understand what the new rules are,” Cr Cugliari said.

The changes affect:

 child restraints
 seat belts
 line markings
mobile phones and visual display units
 motorcyclists
 cyclists
 pedestrians
 drivers
 parking
 driving with trams
 wheeled recreational devices

For full details about the changes visit www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/roadrules or pick up a brochure at a VicRoads office.
