| Diversity @ Work Award | | The Voices of Young Australians program, a partnership project of Melton Shire Council Youth Services and the Centre for Multicultural Youth (CMY) has won the 2009 Diversity @ Work Award in the 'Today' s Youth - the Future of Tomorrow Award'.
The award was announced at a special event on Thursday 15 October 2009. Mayor Cr Cugliari of Melton Shire Council congratulated all the young leaders who have participated in the program.
“We are very proud of our young, vibrant and diverse community. It is wonderful to see young people so enthusiastic,” continued the Mayor.
Diversity @ Work awards were established as a way of recognising leading practice in the area of diversity and inclusion. The award was presented by Reverend Tim Costello, CEO, World Vision.
Melton Shire Council Youth Services has collaborated with the CMY since July 2008 to engage young people from three secondary colleges in the Melton Shire in leadership training and youth-led project development to combat race-based discrimination. The project is funded by the Scanlon Foundation and aims to promote social cohesion.
Better Workplace Awards | | There might also be another award for Melton Shire Council in the near future with Council a finalist in the Better Workplace Awards.
Melton Shire Council is recognised for its work on Return to Work (RTW) plans. A significant decrease of number of staff on RTW plans within the Aged and Disability unit (including home care, personal care and respite care workers) has been achieved over the last year.
The awards are an initiative of Council’s Work Cover insurer Xchanging and the winners will be announced during WorkSafe Week (26 to 30 October).
Melton Shire Council will mark Community Safety Week with a special WorkSafe Day on 30 October for staff, which will include a series of safety-related awareness activities.
