Violence against women is recognised as one of the most widespread, yet hidden, human rights abuses in the world. Women who experience violence suffer from decreased physical, mental and emotional health, social isolation and are less able to participate in community life. Children exposed to violence are less able to form healthy attachments and may experience significant emotional, physical and developmental issues.
Melton Family Violence Network
The Melton Family Violence Network (MFVN) is an important forum for local service providers to discuss service coordination and other practice issues. The network meets monthly and is currently guiding the development of a Melton City Council Preventing Violence Against Women and Children strategy and supporting prevention initiatives.
Western Region Preventing Violence Against Women - Preventing Violence Together
This working group established by Women’s Health West includes representatives from Primary Care Partnerships as well as local Councils and community health organisations to collaboratively work to prevent violence against women. Melton City Council is regularly represented on this working group.
Preventing Violence Together: The Western Region Action Plan to Prevent Violence Against Women aims to create communities, cultures, and organisations in the western region that are non-violent, non-discriminatory, gender equitable, and promote respectful relationships. Council is a signatory to this plan.
