Builders are responsible to protect Council assets (including roads and footpaths, kerb and channel, drainage pits, nature strips and other infrastructure ) during the building process.
This means builders, contractors, suppliers and trades people must ensure damage to assets is kept to a minimum, and assets are repaired if damage does occur.
Seven days prior to the start of construction the builder/permit holder must give written notice to Council of existing damages to any Council Assets which:
- are adjacent to the land (on all sides) to which the building permit relates, or
- is likely to be affected by the building works authorised by the building permit.
The builder, owner builder or permit holder must:
- complete an asset protection permit form
- forward to Council’s Road Assets Officer (Operations Department, PO Box 21, Melton or Fax (03) 9743-9970)
Council will then arrange an inspection.
Please see the asset protection cover letter for more details on the process, or contact Council on (03) 9747 7200.
