The modern Men’s Shed is an updated version of the shed in the backyard that has long been a part of Australian culture. Men’s Sheds are springing up all around Australia, there are already over 500.
When you look inside the Melton Men’s Shed you might see a number of men restoring furniture, perhaps restoring bicycles for needy families, maybe making possum boxes for environmental groups, or making chopping boards for local clubs to use in their raffles. You might also see a few young men working with the older blokes, learning new skills and even learning something about life from the men they’re working alongside. You will see tea-bags, coffee cups and a comfortable area where men can sit and talk, or even just watch some telly. You will see the kitchen where men are learning to cook for themselves and another area where they can learn how to contact their families by computer.

| Who is the Men’s Shed for? | | The Shed is for men of any age, though we realise that Men’s Sheds traditionally attract many older men, particularly those in or close to retirement.
We’re keen to involve men who have particular skills and who would gladly help teach others and we’re equally keen to have men involved who want to learn from others. Or maybe you just want to come along for a cuppa and a chat?
As long as you’re a resident in the Shire of Melton and aged 25 years or over, the Melton Men’s Shed is your Shed.
Please note, if you have a carer who supports you with your daily activities including mobility, personal care needs, etc., then your carer must accompany and support you at the Shed at all times.
