Long-awaited upgrades to the Caroline Springs Leisure Centre have finally begun, paving the way for a state-of-the-art sporting precinct.

The $11.8 million project will see the Leisure Centre expanded, as well as a brand new sub-regional tennis facility built.

The beginning of the expansion and new tennis facility were marked with an official sod-turning ceremony at the site, on Friday 22 September.

The tennis facility will see 12 new courts built, to complete the Caroline Springs Recreation Precinct.

Key features of the project include two additional internal basketball/ netball/ futsal courts, 12 tennis courts with night time lighting, including one show court area, and a competition-sized, external netball court.

Three new basketball hoops with space for casual use will also be installed, along with four new change rooms, a large community function room, a commercial kitchen and coaching offices.

The facilities will be available for public and club use.

The State Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund contributed $2.5 million to the project.

The project is expected to be completed by December 2018.
