Ballarat Line Upgrade

The Australian and Victorian governments are upgrading the Ballarat line to deliver more trains and improved reliability for Melbourne's outer western suburbs, Melton, Bacchus Marsh, Ballan and Ballarat.

The project will enable much needed extra services in the morning and afternoon peak, plus a train every 40 minutes off-peak for these growing communities.

Construction started in October 2017 while upgrades to stations and track duplication will start in 2018, with the project to be completed by late 2019.

For the latest updates visit the Ballarat Line Upgrade website.

Upcoming line closure

The Ballarat rail line will be closed on Saturday 24 February and Sunday 25 February as work continues on the Ballarat Line Upgrade.

This closure will allow us to install safety fencing along the line, so work can begin on track duplication between Deer Park West and Melton. V/Line will also be doing maintenance works at the same time.

Work will be complete and regular train services will resume from the first service on Monday 26 February.

Temporary traffic management, including speed and lane reductions, will apply in surrounding streets.

Please visit the works page for more information.
