New suburbs

Overview

Eleven new suburbs were gazetted by the State Government in February this year.

The new suburbs and changes to existing suburbs came into effect on 23 August 2017.

It's important to note that the emergency services database (ESTA), including police, fire, and ambulance, will have a record of both old and new addresses for a period of time, likewise with Australia Post.

Updating your details

Residents and property owners directly affected by the suburb name change will have received an information pack from Council. The pack provides advice and a checklist(PDF, 30KB) to help with the transition from old suburb to new.  It includes who to advise of the address change, such as insurance companies, utilities, health and medical providers, banks and VicRoads (for your licence and registration details).  

However it may still take some time for all authorities, agencies and businesses to update their databases, so some patience is required.

When will the new suburbs be in place?

The 11 new suburbs came into effect on 23 August 2017. 

Am I affected? Will my address change?

If you are in a directly affected area, your suburb name has changed.   Affected residents and property owners should have received a letter from Council advising them of the names and boundaries. 

What happens next?

If you are affected, you should have received an information pack from Council informing you of your change of address as well as a checklist to help residents with the transition from old suburb to new. This includes who to advise of the address change, such as insurance companies, utilities, health and medical providers, banks and VicRoads (for your licence and registration details).

The Office of Geographic Names has updated Vicnames, the official register of geographic names and features in Victoria. Emergency services and other government agencies, including water authorities, rely upon Vicnames for suburb and place information.

However, affected property owners are responsible for notifying organisations such as employers or financial institutions of any change of address, and for taking any other necessary actions specific to mailing, residential or business contact information.

Will my postcode change?

Residents in Fraser Rise, Deanside and Aintree have the new postcode 3336.

All other postcodes remain the same.

Will there be a change to my services?

No all services will remain the same.

How did the names get chosen?

An advisory committee compiled the list of suburb name recommendations after considering community and stakeholder feedback (which included over 16,000 votes from residents and stakeholders). The list was endorsed by Council at the Ordinary Meeting on 21 October 2014. The names and boundaries were approved by the State Government’s Office of Geographic Names in February 2017.

Why the change?

The new suburbs will be established across the growth corridor between Melton township and Caroline Springs in areas including Plumpton, Rockbank and Truganina. Smaller changes will also take in long-established localities such as Melton South and Melton West, effectively changing the address of over 5,000 homes and businesses.

The changes are needed to ensure that population growth doesn’t push suburb densities beyond 20,000 residents, and to ensure that neighbourhoods and geographic characteristics are recognised as being unique.

Suburb boundaries

Aintree

The northern boundary of Aintree will follow Kororoit Creek, extending westbound from the south-western property boundary of 111–159 Vere Court to Leakes Road.

The western boundary will align with the centreline of Leakes Road extending south from Kororoit Creek to the Western Freeway.

The southern boundary will align with the Western Freeway running from Leakes Road to the eastern property boundary of 1902–1990 Western Freeway.

The eastern boundary will run northbound from the Western Freeway along the western property boundaries of 1–59, 61–99 and 101–105 Deanside Drive to Kororoit Creek.

Bonnie Brook

The northern boundary of Bonnie Brook will align with the Melton Highway, extending west from Plumpton Road to Kororoit Creek.

The western and southern boundaries will align with Kororoit Creek, extending southbound from Melton Highway to the south western property boundary of 111–159 Vere Court.

The eastern boundary will align with the western property boundaries of 111–159 Vere Court and 1331–1361 Taylors Road, extending northbound to Taylors Road. The eastern boundary will extend east along the centrelines of Taylors Road continuing northbound on Plumpton Road until the Melton Highway.

Cobblebank

The northern boundary of Cobblebank will align with the centreline of the Western Freeway extending from Mount Cottrell Road to Toolern Creek.

The western boundary will extend southbound from the Western Freeway along Toolern Creek until Bridge Road.

The southern boundary will extend eastbound along the centrelines of Bridge Road, turning southbound along Ferris Road, continuing eastbound along Alfred Road to Mount Cottrell Road.

The eastern boundary will extend north along Mount Cottrell Road until the Western Freeway.

Deanside

The northern boundary of Deanside will extend westbound from the existing boundary of Caroline Springs along Taylors Road to the western property boundary of 1331–1361 Taylors Road.

The western boundary will extend southbound from Taylors Road, running along the western property boundaries of 1331–1361 Taylors Road and 111–159 Vere Court to Kororoit Creek. The alignment will continue southbound along the western property boundaries of 101–105, 61–99 and 1–59 Deanside Drive and 1902–1990 Western Freeway to the Western Freeway.

The southern boundary will run eastbound from the south-east corner of property 1902–1990 Western Freeway, eastbound along the centreline of the Western Freeway until the existing boundary of Caroline Springs. The eastern boundary will align with the locality boundary of Caroline Springs, which remains unchanged.

Fieldstone

The northern boundary of Fieldstone will extend westbound along the centrelines of Greigs Road from Troups Road South to Faulkners Road.

The western boundary will extend southbound along Faulkners Road to Harrison Road.

The southern boundary will align with the centreline of Harrison Road, continuing eastbound along the northern property boundaries of 161–229 and 160–228 Downing Street and 346–416 Troups Road South.

The eastern boundary will extend northbound along the centreline of Troups Road South to Greigs Road.  

Fraser Rise

The northern boundary of Fraser Rise will extendwest from the existing boundary of Hillside along the Melton Highway to Plumpton Road.

The western boundary will extend southbound along Plumpton Road from the Melton Highway to Taylors Road.

The southern boundary will extend eastbound along Taylors Road from Plumpton Road to the existing border of Caroline Springs.

The eastern boundary will align with the locality boundaries of Hillside and Caroline Springs, which remain unchanged.

Grangefields

The northern boundary of Grangefields will be aligned with the centreline of Kororoit Creek, extending westbound from Leakes Road until the Melton Highway, continuing west along Melton Highway until Mount Cottrell Road.

The western boundary will extend southbound along Mount Cottrell Road from Melton Highway until the Western Freeway.

The southern boundary will be aligned with the Western Freeway extending south-east from Mount Cottrell Road to Leakes Road.

The eastern boundary will extend northbound from the Western Freeway to Kororoit Creek along Leakes Road.

Harkness

The northern boundary of Harkness will align with the northern boundary of MacPherson Park, extending south along Bulmans Road, turning westbound along the centreline of Porteous Road, continuing along the northern property boundary of 2–92 Harkness Road to Djerriwarrh Creek.

The western boundary extends southbound along Djerriwarrh Creek to the northern property boundary of 127–175 Hardys Road. The southern boundary extends eastbound from the northern property boundary of 127–175 Hardys Road, extending along the centreline of Hardys Road.

Turning southbound along Harkness Road until the southern property boundary of 397–435 Harkness Road, the southern boundary continues eastbound, meeting and continuing along the centreline of Sovereign Boulevard. Progressing northwards along the centreline of Bulmans Road until Centenary Avenue. Then continuing along the centreline of Centenary Avenue eastbound to Coburns Road.

The eastern boundary with Kurunjang remains unchanged. 

Melton South

The suburb of Melton South is to be reduced in area.

The northern boundary will extend westbound from Toolern Creek along the Western Freeway to Coburns Road.

The western boundary will extend southbound along the existing boundary of Coburns Road and the railway line until the southern property boundary of 131 Rees Road.

The southern boundary will extend eastbound from the railway line and the southern property boundary of 131 Rees Road, extending southbound along Rees Road, continuing eastbound along the northern property boundaries of 179–253 Exford Road and 180–238 Exford Road to Toolern Creek.

The eastern boundary will align with Toolern Creek extending from the north-east property corner of 180–238 Exford Road, extending northbound until the Western Freeway.

Melton West

The suburb of Melton West has been reduced in area.

The northern boundary will extend westbound from Coburns Road along the centreline of Centenary Avenue, southbound along Bulmans Road, continuing westbound along the centreline of Sovereign Boulevard. The northern boundary continues to extend westbound along the southern property boundary of 397–435 Harkness Road, northbound along the centreline of Harkness Road, turning westbound along Hardys Road, continuing along the northern property boundary of 127–175 Hardys Road to Djerriwarrh Creek.

The western, southern and eastern boundaries of Melton West remain unchanged.

Mount Cottrell

The suburb of Mount Cottrell will be reduced in area.

The northern boundary will extend eastbound from the northern property boundaries of 346–416 Troups Road South, 160–228 and 161–229 Downing Street. The northern boundary will continue eastbound along the centreline of Harrison and Greigs Roads until the existing boundary of Eynesbury.

The western and southern boundaries of Mount Cottrell remain unchanged.

The eastern boundary will extend northbound from the centreline of Boundary Road to the northern property boundary of 346–416 Troups Road South.

Plumpton

The suburb of Plumpton is to be reduced in area.

The southern boundary of Plumpton will align with the Melton Highway. All other boundaries remain unchanged.

Rockbank

The suburb of Rockbank has been reduced in area.

The northern boundary aligns with the Western Freeway extending from Troups Road North, continuing westbound to Paynes Road.

The western boundary follows the centreline of Paynes Road southbound from the Western Freeway to Greigs Road.

The southern boundary aligns with Greigs Road extending eastbound from Paynes Road to Troups Road North.

The eastern boundary aligns with Troups Road North extending northbound from Greigs Road to the Western Freeway.

Strathtulloh

The northern boundary of Strathtulloh will extend from Mount Cottrell Road westbound along centrelines of Alfred Road, turning northbound along Ferris Road, continuing westbound along the centreline of Bridge Road to Toolern Creek.

The western boundary will extend southbound along the Toolern Creek until the boundary with Mount Cottrell.

The southern boundary will align with the existing boundary of Mount Cottrell.

The eastern boundary will extend from Greigs Road northbound along Mount Cottrell Road until Alfred Road. 

Thornhill Park

The northern boundary of Thornhill Park will align with the Western Freeway, extending westbound from Paynes Road to Mount Cottrell Road.

The western boundary will be aligned with Mount Cottrell Road extending from the Western Freeway southbound towards the intersection of Greigs Road and the unformed road reserve between Greigs Road and Harrison Road.

The southern boundary will be aligned with the centreline of the unformed road reserve between Greigs Road and Harrison Road.

The eastern boundary will extend northbound along the centrelines of Faulkners Road from Harrison Road to Greigs Road, extending eastbound on Greigs Road to Paynes Road, continuing northbound on Paynes Road to the Western Freeway.

Toolern Vale

The suburb of Toolern Vale is to be reduced in area.

The southern boundary will extend from Djerriwarrh Creek eastbound along the northern property boundary of 2–92 Harkness Road, continuing along the centreline of Porteous Road, turning northbound along Bulmans Road, extending eastbound along the northern boundary of MacPherson Park to Coburns Road.

All other boundaries remain unchanged.

Truganina

The suburb of Truganina has been increased in area.

The northern boundary will extend along the Western Freeway eastbound from Clarke Road to Troups Road North.

The western boundary will align with Troups Road North southbound from the  Western Freeway to Greigs Road. The boundary continues westbound along Greigs Road to Troups Road South, extending southbound along Troups Road South to Boundary Road.

The southern and eastern boundaries remain unchanged.

Weir Views

The northern boundary of Weir Views will extend westbound from Toolern Creek aligning with the northern property boundaries of 180–238 and 179–253 Exford Road, extending northbound along Rees Road, continuing westbound along the southern property boundary of 131 Rees Road to the railway line, aligning with the existing southern boundary of Brookfield.

The south-western boundary shares the existing boundary of Exford and Mount Cottrell which remains unchanged.

The eastern boundary extends northbound along the centreline of Toolern Creek from the existing boundary of Mount Cottrell, extending to the north-east property boundary 180–238 Exford Road.
